Lesson 14

I had an amusing experience last year.
我去年有过一次有趣的经历。
After I had left a small village in the south of France, I drove on to the next town.
在我离开法国南部的一个小村庄后，我继续开车前往下一个城镇。
On the way, a young man waved to me.
在路上，一个年轻人向我挥手。
I stopped and he asked me for a lift.
我停了下来，他请求我让他搭个便车。
As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language.
他一进车里，我就用法语对他说了声早上好，他也用同样的语言回答了我。
Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at all.
除了几个单词，我根本不通任何法语。
Neither of us spoke during the journey.
我们两个在旅途中都没有说话。
I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said, very slowly, 'Do you speak English?'
我快要到达那个小镇时，那个年轻人突然非常缓慢地说道：“你说英语吗？”
As I soon learnt, he was English himself
